I’ve been charter fishing on the Oregon Coast for as long as I can remember. While my career took me to destinations all over the United States, I always found my way back to Oregon each year to fish for Steelhead, Salmon and my absolute favorite, Albacore Tuna.
There were Rock-Fish, Halibut, and Ling cod trips over the years as well. As my own children (4) became old enough to appreciate fishing, they were brought along also. I fulfilled my childhood ambition of moving to the Oregon coast and making it my home.
I’ve lived in the heart of Oregon’s fishing mecca for over 20 years now, and while I’ve owned my own boat and fished the local lakes and rivers, I have also continued to charter fish and about 15 years ago, when it was apparent that a new boat was necessary to continue fishing safely.
I opted instead to spend those dollars on other family recreation needs, and and decided that charter fishing was smarter, more productive, and less expensive that the “do it yourself approach that I’d taken previously.
Even at today’s rates, which have nearly doubled since that time, that I’m still able to fish as much as I want for the fish species I want for less than what I was spending on boat payments, fuel, bait, fishing gear and general upkeep.
